Visiting Southern New Mexico

Plan a trip for southern New Mexico. While winter in New Mexico can offer stunning views, it’s in spring and summer when southern New Mexico really shines. From Hobbs to Carlsbad, or Las Cruces to Alamogordo, there’s wide variety of enticing festivals, events, and attractions for you to explore. Plan a visit to the New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo. Roswell is popular due to a famous (and supposed) UFO crash landing in 1947 – see what all the fuss is about when you visit the International UFO Museum & Research Center.

Make your way into Ruidoso this spring. An affable town, Ruidoso is a choice destination on your trek through southern New Mexico. With a close proximity to Ruidoso Downs, Ruidoso yields a pleasant mix of attractive sights and fun things to do. Don’t miss out on the Hubbard Museum of the American West, or visit the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts, just north in Alto.

You’ll want to check out the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts on March 9th for a live rendition of Fiddler of the Roof – a wonderful show for you and the family. In April, don’t miss out on Beatles tribute band The Fab Four, live at the Spencer Theater on the 6th. April 20th brings the Texas Tenors, and on the 28th enjoy a performance from Elvis Lives.

Closer to the Mexican border you’ll find Las Cruces. A vibrant border city, Las Cruces is home to New Mexico State University, and the Historical Museum of Lawmen. Spring and early summer make for an ideal time to check out college baseball in Las Cruces. Head to the Presley Askew Baseball Complex on April 12th as the New Mexico State Aggies take on the Sacramento State Hornets in the first of a three game series. If you’re planning on visiting later, don’t miss the action as the Aggies battle the San Jose State Spartans in a three-game set, May 3rd – 5th.

Head west from Las Cruces and Deming and check out Lordsburg. Spring and summer, in particular, yield excellent adventures while exploring the Red Rock Wildlife Area.
