Bottomless Lakes State Park

The Bottomless Lakes State Park became New Mexico's first established state park in 1933. The park contains nine deep water-filled sinkholes, in the valley along the Pecos River, 15 miles southeast of Roswell. Take a dip in Lea Lake, measuring ninety feet deep, and enjoy relaxing and playing along the sandy shoreline. Lazy Lagoon, the largest of the lakes, consists of three sink holes.

Pasture Lake measures 18 feet deep and is the shallowest of all the lakes. Beautiful cliffs surround most of the lakes. Enjoy an afternoon hiking along these lakes in southern New Mexico. Best Western hotels provide convenient and comfortable lodging in Roswell, Artesia and Carlsbad.

International UFO Museum/Research Center

The International UFO Museum/Research Center, opened in 1992 as a means to educate the public on the aspects of the UFO phenomena. The museum is located in Roswell, the site of the famous "Roswell Incident", a documented UFO cover-up in 1947. Museum visitors view exhibits of crop circles, Area 51, abductions and information on Roswell.

The library is also available for visitors to research further information on UFOs. The annual UFO Festival, held during the first week of July, is a fun way to celebrate the curiosity of UFOs. Roswell International Air Center

Southern New Mexico travelers enjoy the convenient general and commercial aviation services, available in Roswell. The Roswell International Air Center began providing commercial flights in 1967, once the Roswell Army Airfield, also known as Walker Air Force Base, closed its operations. The airport is near Corona, New Mexico, the location where a supposed UFO or "flying disk" crashed. This Roswell UFO incident has caused quite the controversy since then.

The airport encompasses 5,029 acres of Southern New Mexico land and features three runways. Travelers looking for a flight to Dallas/Fort Worth, can do so aboard a commercial flight with American Eagle Airlines. Additional businesses on location include the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center and NovaBus Inc.
