Visiting Albuquerque & Northern New Mexico
Whether you’re on your way to Albuquerque for the Poe Festival, or looking to take advantage of excellent spring and summer weather at the Biopark Botanical Garden, your trip into northern New Mexico is sure to yield long lasting memories. As the epicenter of fun and attraction in the area, Albuquerque has more to offer than you might think – especially during spring. The kids will love a visit to the Rio Grande Zoo, and a ride along the Sandia Peak Tramway, while everyone seems to enjoy exploring the Albuquerque Aquarium. Enjoy your trek through northern New Mexico.
Make the short drive into Albuquerque from Moriarty and check out an array of springtime events, perfect for your next visit. You’ll want to head for the Expo New Mexico State Fairgrounds for the Southwest Chocolate & Coffee Fest, March 23rd and 24th.
The Poe Festival, currently on-going through April 7th, is set at various venues around Albuquerque and celebrates the life and work of Edgar Allan Poe. The culminating event of the Poe Festival is a live performance of Merely This and Nothing More, April 7th at the VSA North 4th Arts Center.
Experience authentic Native American culture at the Gathering of the Nations Pow Wow, April 25th – 27th. Held at the University of New Mexico Arena, the Gathering of the Nations Pow Wow is two full days of local food, music, singing and dancing.
North of Albuquerque is Santa Fe. The capital of New Mexico, Santa Fe is a thriving and jovial city – be sure to add it to the travel agenda. You’ll want to explore the Santa Fe Museum of Fine Arts, and the Institute of American Indian Arts.
Make your way to the Lensic Performing Arts Center on March 10th for a live performance of the popular musical Fiddler on the Roof. If you’re a jazz fan, plan a visit to Santa Fe for the Monterey Jazz Festival: 55th Anniversary, live at The Lensic Performing Arts Center, April 25th.
In the far north of New Mexico, you’ll find Raton – set between Clayton and Red River. Plan, as many do, a visit into Raton to explore the Sugarite Canyon State Park. Excellent for a spring outdoor adventure, the Sugarite Canyon State Park yields tremendous insights into the coal-mining camps in the area from the early 20th century.
